Message of the Chair
Uzbekistan has a historical civilization that has built up and enriched itself over thousands of years. In Uzbekistan, thinkers, scientists, statesmen and poets who contributed not only to Central Asia, but also to world civilization developed and invented great works. This heritage consists of precious scientific and literary books, miniatures and unique architectural works that have been preserved to this day.
After Uzbekistan’s independence, the preservation and exploration of the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the Uzbek people became a state-led state policy. In Uzbekistan, nearly four thousand archaeological monuments have been brought under state protection so far. More than a thousand archaeological and architectural monuments have been reconstructed. Throughout history, the prominent names that contributed immensely to world civilization have been reintroduced into society. During the last decades, it has made great strides in social, economic, cultural, educational and other humanitarian fields, and today it has developed in the heart of Central Asia and has become a country looking forward to the future with hope.
I have travelled to Uzbekistan on many occasions – private tours, business trips and by official invitations of Uzbek state authorities and had the chance to get to know Uzbekistan’s wide geography with its developed cities, remote villages, historical monuments, mountains, plains, river banks and deserts. During my countless visits I learned about the rich cultural heritage and became a big fan of the Uzbek culture. One of my main observations is that it is the Uzbek people with their colourful roots who make the difference in the uniqueness of the country through their hospitality, dedication and entrepreneurial spirit.
We know that the implementation of bilateral cooperation will make a positive contribution to the development of cultural ties and to the strengthening of mutual understanding and trust between the peoples of the two countries. We are happy to contribute to this positive development and to count the friendly and hospitable Uzbek people among our friends. There is an Uzbek proverb which says “Mehmon otangdan ulug’” (A guest is above (or greater than) the father) – so you are cordially invited to discover this beautiful country and enjoy Uzbek hospitality.
